Postural Stability Test in Pregnant Women and Non-pregnant Women
Sim Mi-Jung

Abstract
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare the differences of postural stability in pregnant women and non-pregnant women.

Methods : The study subjects were a convenience sample of 17 healthy pregnant women in third trimester for experimental group and 17 healthy, non-pregnant women for control group. The level of postural stability was measured with Dynamic Balance System at rehabilitation therapy room of K college from 24 October to 11 November, 2000. The differences of postural stability between pregnant and non-pregnant women were compared according to age, delivery experience and the type of past delivery. Statistical significance of the differences was tested with t-test, ¥ö©÷test and ANCOVA.

Results : There were no significant differences between two groups on postural stability. But, the mean score of postural stability in non-pregnant women was somewhat higher than that of pregnant women. Also. the mean score of postural stability with their eyes open was higher than the mean score with their eyes close in both groups.

Conclusions : This study did not support the hypothesis that the level of postural stability would be different between pregnant and non-pregnant women. It is recommended to consider exercise and posture in daily life and increase the sample size in future study.
